Sculpture Installation

I find the material culture of things intoxicating; an object in the hand, the gathering of data, thoughts, marks on a page. It fills me with fascination for the natural world and our human relationships with it. A creature’s relationship with the land, sea and sky can be fraught and full of transformations. A diver beaches herself on a low bank, a blubbery muddied seal, but flies out to the Sound to feed a fine and elegant goose! The tensions between elegance and awkwardness can tread a fine line, as can the transit from natural behaviour to human influence. I observe and research, gather data and make installations.

I am constantly reassessing notions of the human and non-human animal through my installation work, as well as the boarders of science, art and aesthetics. I am currently developing a project centred around cognitive functioning and communication across the survival / social, and human / non-human animal divides. This work will form the basis of a solo show at The Fermoy Gallery, Kings Lynn, September-October 2009 and symposium ‘Pidgin Language: Animals , Birds and Us’ Saturday October 10th, Kings Lynn Guildhall 2009.
